“En garde! Artistic manufactures, precious materials and traditional rituals in the ancient weapons of the Civic Museum” is the new proposed exhibition from the “Giovanni Podenzana” Ethnographic Civic Museum of La Spezia, inauguration on 12 July. The exhibition, which will be available to visitors for a year, highlights the artistic production, the use of often rare and precious materials, the rituals and gestures linked to bladed and firearms weapons which constitute a very important and consistent nucleus of civic collections of La Spezia formed thanks to the generous bequests of many families. The exhibition allows you to return to admire, study and promote a museum section (non-European ethnography) which the public can rarely enjoy and which represents a unique example in the regional panorama. On display are symbolic instruments such as the Native American tomahawk, the Australian Aboriginal boomerang, and the Indonesian kris. The exhibition will group the most significant artefacts from the historical collections by place of origin. An initial section will concern a new acquisition recently confiscated by the museum thanks to the generous generosity of a family from La Spezia. “We are proud to have unique collections in our territory and we continue to work to make known not only our history, but that of the whole society”, comments the mayor, Pierluigi Peracchini.
