“Interconnection with Tunisia strengthens Italy-Africa energy exchanges”

“One of the projects that contributes to strengthening Italy’s role as energy hub in the Mediterranean it is without a doubt Elmedthe direct current connection between Italy and North Africa which Terna will create together with STEG. Thanks to the project, we will increase
the efficiency of energy exchange between the networks of the two continents and the integration of renewables, contributing to greater security of supply for the country”. This is what was stated by Giuseppina Di FoggiaCEO and General Manager of Terna, speaking at Selinunte in the dress of the fourth Workshop of Medreg Presidents (Mediterranean Energy Association).

“With our Tunisian partner we are working on one strategic and equal collaboration which focuses on energy and innovation, thus combining the aspirations of Mattei Plan for Africa: in addition to infrastructural development, we want to focus on the growth of distinctive skills, supporting Tunisian companies active in the field of technological innovation: I am therefore happy to anticipate
in this context which will be operational after the summer ‘Terna Innovation Zone’an initiative with a specific focus on training and talent attraction to encourage employment growth in Tunisia, which will support startups and the local energy industry”.

“This – states the CEO – is just an example of our vision, on which the Industrial Plan 2024-2028 of over 16.5 billion euros of investments: Terna works for one Twin Transitionenergy and digital, with positive impacts on all stakeholders and the environment. We will invest in digitalisation around 2 billion euros over the next five years. Innovation will be a strategic driver for us to achieve the decarbonisation targets set at national and international level”.
