PRESS RELEASE

The initial reception operations of the 64 migrants who landed this morning at the port of Marina di Carrara after being rescued by the ‘Ocean Viking’ ship of the NGO ‘SOS Mediterranée’ in the southern Mediterranean ended just before 2pm today, Wednesday 12 June. The boat docked at the ‘Fiorillo’ quay today shortly after 7am and here disembarked the migrants who were then accompanied to pavilion B of Imm-CarraraFiere for medical examinations and recognition. Once these first reception operations were completed, all the migrants then left towards their final destinations.

“This time too, Carrara responded in the best possible way and we are proud of this – says the deputy mayor of Carrara Roberta Crudeli -. Today’s landing of the Ocean Viking was the 13th landing at the port of Marina di Carrara starting from January 2023, overall we welcomed over 1,500 people who arrived in Italy in search of a better future. Thanks therefore once again to the prefect Guido Aprea and to the entire prefecture who coordinated all the operations, to the agents of our municipal police, to the staff of the social services of the Municipality of Carrara and of the civil protection and also to the women and men of the forces of the order, of the Port System Authority and of the ASL and, last but not least, to the many volunteers who gave a fundamental contribution”.
