Catanzaro was the protagonist at the prestigious Street Art Festival of Camara De Lobos, a famous tourist resort on the Portuguese island of Madeira. The relationship between the two cities was born thanks to the partnership network between the “intelligent” European cities guaranteed by the participation of the capital municipality in the European Union project ICC (Intelligent Cities Challenge), coordinated by the municipal consultant Antonio De Marco, and which sees Catanzaro dialogue with the best European urban experiences committed to sustainable urban development.

In particular, a partnership agreement was reached with Camara De Lobos by virtue of the common commitment on the theme of culture and experiences of Street and Urban Art: a prestigious and famous international festival takes place every year in Camara, a destination for large flows of visitors, while Catanzaro has been developing, for several years, numerous successful initiatives including murals and the recent artistic redevelopment of the city stairways. In the Portuguese town, the Catanzaro experience was presented online by the director of the widespread museum of contemporary art, Matteo Sainato, with the screening of a video clip on the initiatives of MUDIAC itself and the Altrove Festival, which were highly appreciated by the Portuguese partner and the large audience present.

The two cities have decided to develop the relationship of exchange of good practices, which will soon lead to the proposal of projects to the European Union to finance artistic cooperation programs and sharing of experiences and street works of art, together with other realities of the ICC network involved in the topic, including Dortmund in Germany and Esch-sur-Alzette in Luxembourg.

The Mayor Nicola Fiorita and the Councilor for Culture, Donatella Monteverdi, said they were particularly happy with this prestigious international stage offered to the City of Catanzaro, on a theme such as street art, which constitutes an important opportunity for the processes of urban regeneration and social and strategic contribution to the imminent preparation of Catanzaro’s candidacy as Capital City of Contemporary Art.
