At the Foligno hospital, a newborn baby girl underwent treatment with non-invasive respiratory support in newborns for the first time. After 12 hours of continuous positive pressure ventilation with a nasal interface, the little girl returned to her mother’s arms in the room of the Obstetrics and Gynecology department and on the third day she was discharged.
The little girl came into the world at 38 weeks and 6 days by caesarean section and immediately showed mild to moderate breathing difficulties. Hence the hospitalization in Neonatal Pathology and the choice to proceed with non-invasive ventilation, which led to a complete resolution of the respiratory symptoms, as a note from Local Health Authority 2 explains. At the Foligno hospital this is the first newborn, in specific case of the first newborn, subjected to this type of treatment, which is effective – stated Maurizio Radicioni, head of pediatrics for the hospitals of Foligno and Spoleto – in mild and moderate neonatal respiratory insufficiencies, alone or in association with administration of natural surfactant”.
