Everything is ready, in the spaces adjacent to the historic building Church of Santa Maria dei Greci in Fratte (Salerno)for the presentation of the next activities promoted by the Center for Legality of the Galahad social cooperative, with the moral patronage ofDepartment of Social Policies of the Municipality of Salerno and ofCulture and Art Office of the Archdiocese of Salerno-Campagna-Acerno and in collaboration with the Parish of Saints Felice and Giovanni in Pastorano. The project will be presented on Friday 14 June 2024, at 5.30 pm, at the Santa Maria dei Greci Church in Fratte, in Salerno (in front of the entrance to the car park of the Le Cotoniere Shopping Centre), by the Councilor for Social Policies of the Municipality of Salerno, Paola De Roberto, the Director of the Culture and Art Office of the Archdiocese, Professor Lorella Parente, the Parish Priest of Santi Felice e Giovanni in Pastorano, Don Marco Raimondo and the president of the Galahad social cooperative, the journalist Marilia Parente, at the presence, among others, of the parish communities of Matierno-Cappelle-Pastorano and some delegations from the animal rights world.
The project
Concerned about the escalation of mistreatment and torture inflicted on animals in our territory, the volunteers of Center for Legality they have, in fact, focused attention on the spread of cruelty and barbarism towards defenseless beings, such as animals, as well as on the spectacularisation of horror through social media. Considering that the mistreatment of animals during childhood, adolescence or adulthood represents an alarm bell as an indicator of potential future social danger, the Galahad cooperative has intended to broaden its educational and social commitment through actions aimed at raising awareness of respect for animals , addressing the younger ones and making them “guardians” of those who have no voice. From next autumn, the very young users of the Center for Legality, in collaboration with the Istituto Comprensivo San Tommaso d’Aquino, will also be protagonists of initiatives to raise awareness and promote solidarity collections aimed at kennels, catteries and animals in difficulty, with the aim of educating young generations to empathize with every creature, avoiding the dehumanization and desensitization that spread throughout society. In the meantime, as part of these activities, the first city cat park has been set up, named after Leone, the kitten skinned alive in Angri. This is the first protected roping area for domestic cats, a sign of attention for the felines who will be able to give vent to their repressed energies by savoring that sense of freedom in the greenery, important but often necessarily denied to cats in apartments, for safety reasons. The Cat Park, equipped with ad hoc nets and themed furnishings, including tunnels and games for cats, instead gives cats moments of adventure in nature, without risks, among plants that are not harmful to the animals donated by the Salerno nursery Avaglianothanks to the precious support of senior president from the Coldiretti Salerno, Enzo Galdi. The green space, adjacent to the Santa Maria Dei Greci church, will be accessible through experimental openings, in the summer period, and will be accessible free of charge, in scheduled shifts, by regularly vaccinated and sterilized domestic cats, accompanied by their owners. In the same space, social and cultural initiatives open to the whole community will also be organised.
