Still high risk of thunderstorms and hail in the next few hours in some regions

In the next few hours the atmosphere will continue to take on a very unstable appearance in some regions of Italy where by the evening they will be hit by strong thunderstorms and local hailstorms.

While mid-summer conditions continue in the southern regions, the northern regions and part of those in the center continue to be affected by the cooler and more unstable Atlantic flow driven by a deep cyclonic vortex currently located in the north of our continent.

But which regions will be most exposed to bad weather in the next few hours?
Already in the morning some showers, including thunderstorms, will move from the eastern sectors of Lombardy towards the north-eastern regions, in particular those of Veneto and Friuli Venezia.
However, as happened in the last 24 hours, it will once again be the afternoon that will show the most evident signs of an unstable atmosphere with forecasts of thunderstorms first in the North-West mountains and moving towards many areas of the Po Valley, in particular north of the Po river, where they could also take on a highly intense character, accompanied by sudden events gusts of wind, storms and local hailstorms.
In the Centre, however, the meteorological picture will remain moderately variable with generous sunny spells although sudden thunderstorms will be possible in the more internal areas of Umbria and the Marche.
In stark contrast to the rest of the country, the South will continue to enjoy favorable weather conditions. The sky will remain predominantly blue, except for moderate cloud cover in Sicily and Calabria where the risk of rain will remain very low apart from some light showers in the morning over Sicily.

CIVIL PROTECTION ALERT
Based on available forecasts, the Department of Civil Protection in agreement with the regions involved, who are responsible for activating civil protection systems in the territories concerned, issued a warning of adverse weather conditions. Weather phenomena, impacting different areas of the country, could lead to hydrogeological and hydraulic criticalities which are reported, in a national summary, in the national criticality and alert bulletin available on the Department website (http://www.protezionecivile.gov.it/).

It was also evaluated for the day of Wednesday 12 June, orange alert for risk of thunderstorms in part of Lombardy, yellow alert in parts of Piedmont, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Veneto and the autonomous province of Bolzano, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Umbria.
