«The M5s has rules that can probably generate difficulties, but they exist and must be respected. I believe we should always start from the themes. The M5s has been talking for years – since the first Meetups were founded – about issues that are now very topical. Energy and ecological transition, sustainable development, environmental protection, public health, valorization of common goods, protection of the most vulnerable, technological innovation are some examples. This look at the changes taking place in our society, at ever-increasing speed, must be nourished and consolidated.”
But how do you explain this vote in the South which rewards only the Democratic Party and, in part, the Avs? Was there a need for more incisive opposition or what?
«The M5s lost in terms of votes, but it remains a reference to Naples, as to the south. And I don’t think he made an ineffective opposition. We are fighting against the premiership and differentiated autonomy which risks enormously damaging the south, worsening inequalities. Personally, I have been traveling for more than a year to discuss with citizens throughout Italy the consequences of this measure wanted by the League. And in this opposition we also work side by side with the Pd and Avs. We must not give up an inch on our battles.”
The result in the South, however, confirms that here the numbers are against the centre-right. However, a more organic alliance is needed in the center-left. Among you, Pd, Avs and moderates: hasn’t the time come to break the deadlock and, in addition to reasoning about it, move on to facts?
«The dialogue with other progressive forces has never stopped. The proof is that we govern together in some cities, such as Naples, in Sardinia and also in this round of administrative elections we have common candidates. Where there are conditions, objectives and common programs, we are there.”
Can the majority model of Palazzo San Giacomo, therefore, be replicable? Manfredi says he can be a model.
«It is a model, an important laboratory, and it can certainly be replicated, as has already happened. The methods are found in dialogue and in the desire to build a common project together. This is what already happens in many situations, where there is sharing of themes. The first test bed could be the next regional elections.”
How can an axis be built with the Democratic Party if De Luca is stubborn for the third term. And on this point you and a part of the Democratic Party itself do not agree.
«We propose a political laboratory with the Democratic Party and progressive forces starting from the Naples model and the ongoing experience at the Municipality. From here the road is built.”
