City council still empty, the Democratic Party attacks Melucci

Loose seat for lack of quorum: it ended like this yesterday, June 11th town Council of Taranto.

«Yet another demonstration of totality lack of stability of the administration municipality of Taranto. The Mayor should take note of this once and for all with a clear analysis of conscience and honestly tell the citizens what he wants to do. THE citizens through the European vote they have amply demonstrated that they do not recognize themselves in the work of this municipal administration. We are waiting for Melucci to take note of it.” I’m the one talking Giuseppe Tursi, city secretary of the Taranto Democratic Partyand always from the ranks dem the regional and municipal councilor Enzo Di Gregorio and city councilors Lucio Lonoce And Luca Contrario.

In a previous one Press conferencethe representatives of the Ionian Democratic Party had highlighted how «ndespite the abstentionism, the party is growing in percentage and in terms of absolute votes” and that “in Taranto, the Democratic Party even establishes itself as the first party, a result that we consider as the result of reliable candidacies, and the reference to the extraordinary Antonio Decaro but also to all the other Apulian candidates who achieved their goal. A special thanks to the very young man Giammario Spada and to the Young Democrats team.”

The conference could not miss a passage on “Taranto case”: «With reference to themunicipal and provincial administrative activity of Tarantowe have made several attempts to correct a course that we thought was wrong, we remained unheard and we went into opposition because we no longer consider those managements adhering to the center-left program. Because of this, we have given up roles, prestige and allowances: this is a concrete fact that the people of Taranto have taken into due account and appreciated. From here we start again to continue the work of listening to militants and clubs, which began during the election campaign. We will still be among the people also to restore trust in those who no longer go to vote, as well as to work to build a united progressive front, capable of soon returning to administer the province and the capital city.”

For its part, the municipal administration speaks of «yet another indecipherable attitude during the City Council session with the effect that the highest city meeting was adjourned to Thursday 13 June due to the lack of a quorum. A circumstance which, once again penalizing the city, led to the failure to approve items on the agenda whose nature was purely administrative. The reference is to the budget changes necessary to allow the release of funds to proceed with the removal of the plant from the beaches “Posidonia”, to make traffic safe and regulate parking in the administrative island (Marina di Taranto) and to follow up on extraordinary maintenance interventions relating to the fish market, pedestrian road works, public housing, ventilation systems present in schools and school buildings. And then, again, measures like the “Trade strategic document” or as the examination of the definitive project relating to the named intervention “Social Housing implementation program in the old city of Taranto”. A result which, on the one hand, must induce the majority to be more organised, on the other hand does not make it clear why minorities cause damage to the city by slowing down administrative action”

«In the face of situations such as those recorded in the City Council – declared the mayor Rinaldo Melucci – it seems superfluous to make comments. There is a moment when you cannot anchor yourself to your positions and this moment is when you have to decide the exclusive interest of the city and citizens. In this case, there is no majority and opposition: we should all work towards a common goal. The measures that were blocked, despite being characterized by the requirement of urgency, were not exquisitely so “politicians”. After all, what’s the matter “politic” in a decision such as that of proceeding with the disposal of Posidonia piled up on the beaches and capable of releasing a stench that we all notice on a daily basis? Or like the one relating to the extraordinary maintenance of road works, public housing? Or like the one that should have authorized the arrangement of Villa Peripato as the venue for a sporting event scheduled for the Mediterranean Games? To me, who works every day for the community, these seem like services to be rendered to the city. Evidently, more than one person doesn’t think the same way.”
