Elena Donazzan: «I dream of being president of Veneto»
The most voted by FdI in Veneto: 60,677 personal votes. The most voted also in the Northeast (63,250), obviously after Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The Venetian regional councilor Elena Donazzan arrives at Palazzo Balbi in one of her patriotic outfits, beaming with the result (and also for having beaten her arch-enemy Sergio Berlato, a gap of 17 thousand votes).
Councilor Donazzan, ready to leave Veneto for Brussels?
«I cannot leave Veneto, I have it in my heart, I carry it everywhere, and this result is beyond my expectations, but it is also the opinion that I had asked of Veneto, and of the Venetians above all».
The most voted after the prime minister. How did he do?
“The hard work of 19 years in the council deserved to be put to the test in a judgment that went beyond my natural constituency.”
Will she return from Brussels to be a gubernatorial candidate at the next regional elections?
«Becoming president of the Region has always been my dream and that remains. Certainly the 37.5% that Fratelli d’Italia recorded in Veneto, with the highest positive difference, makes it clear that in the event that there were no change in the law, and therefore Zaia could no longer be president, Fratelli d’Italia could not claim but propose a candidacy for the presidency. I don’t hide the fact that among these I always put my availability at the service of the Venetians and the Brothers of Italy.”
Could FdI already claim more space in the council and ask governor Zaia for a reshuffle?
«Luca Zaia has never made any reshuffles in his political and administrative style, there is continuity and there must be stability. This is a value for Veneto. I remember that in other times, when the percentages were different and there was greater strength for the League, the commitments made at the time of an election were always honoured.”
Who will take his place on the council?
«Someone who is familiar with labor policies, which is the most delicate part of my department together with the education of young people and professional training. He will certainly be an exponent of FdI and he will certainly be chosen by Luca Zaia with the party, but I hope that this is the profile.”
