Sitting on a rocky spur, with your back to Mont Blanc and the sun that illuminates it, with ropes and carabiners in hand, this is how Swed Honor immortalizes Walter Bonatti in a large mural at Skyway’s Pavillon du Mont Frety.

Is titled The Ascension the fresco that the French street artist created on the external wall of the arrival station at the Pavillon, at 2,713 meters, and visible from 9 June when arriving with the Skyway cable car.

«The cable car, an expression of Made in Italy engineering and quality, continues its journey towards art at altitude and in the mountains, demonstrating that it is not just a cable car but a complete and also cultural experience» underlines Funivie Monte Bianco in a note.

«The work is entitled The Ascension like the vertical movement of the cable car towards the highest point in Italy, like Swed’s artistic journey and like Walter Bonatti’s memory of life in the mountains”.

Inspired by the countless photographs that portray the historic mountaineer and traveler, Swed tries to transcribe the quintessence of his emotions through a hyper-realistic style.

The mural paintings of the French artist, who favors black and white portraits, always reposition individuals in their environment.

Born in 1985, Mathieu TaupenasSwed Oner, lives in Uzès, in the south of France.

With a background in hip-hop and skateboarding, Swed he soon started painting graffiti and tags on walls, and then moved on to customizing caps. Her career as a muralist began in the late 1990s, when she began to express her creativity through graffiti. Her interest in portraits arose from the people she met and photographed during his travels.

In 2016 he began painting his portraits on city walls, an activity that has become increasingly central to his artistic life. Swed looks for expressive faces that tell stories. His works, always in black and white, focus on people. He loves people, he is curious about their lives and their stories, and tries to transcribe them on the walls. His art in fact acts as a bridge between the street, people and cultures, drawing inspiration from the urban diversity that characterizes each city or town.

His works are in acrylic and aerosol, often the wrinkled faces he portrays are illuminated by a circle or a ray of light.

As in the case of Bonatti who has a big sun behind him.
