Daniele Calosi is the new general secretary of Fiom Cgil Toscana. He was elected in Florence by the regional assembly of the organisation, gathered in the headquarters of CGIL Toscana, in the presence of Michele De Palma (national general secretary of Fiom CGIL) and Rossano Rossi (general secretary of CGIL Toscana).
Calosi succeeds Massimo Braccini, who has led Fiom Toscana since 2014 and currently manages Fiom Cgil Livorno and Grosseto. The assembly thanked Braccini for the activity carried out and wished Calosi good work. The Fiom Cgil Florence-Prato-Pistoia, until now led by Calosi, will be renewing its general secretary in the coming weeks. The new secretary, Florentine, born in 1969, began working at Nuovo Pignone, where he became a Fiom CGIL delegate. He has been a union official since 1998 and on 8 March 2013 he was elected general secretary of the metalworkers of Florence, then confirmed in 2018. He was a regional Fiom manager and is a national Fiom manager, as well as coordinator for the Fiom national secretariat of the Nuovo Pignone group. He is also at the helm of the Fiom of Prato, since 30 November 2020, and of Pistoia since 18 October 2021.
“Maximum commitment and great responsibility”
“A great honor and a great responsibility, I thank everyone for their trust. Precisely today, in 1984, Berlinguer died. I was very impressed, I came from a communist family and two days later I joined the Fgci, starting a path of political-social commitment which then found its outcome in the union”, Calosi’s first words after the election. He then illustrated the short-term priorities: “Maximum commitment in collecting signatures for the CGIL referendums on work, in the negotiations for the renewal of the national contract for metalworkers and in paying attention to company crises, starting from the largest ones such as Piombino and ex Gkn, where we ask for a more active role of local and national institutions. Territorial bargaining for metalworking artisans must then be regained: bargaining is the way to defend wages at a time when even those who work are losing purchasing power”. (redgs)
