Umbria approves law for completion of reconstruction after 1997 earthquake

The Legislative Assembly of Umbria has approved by majority a bill proposed by the Regional Council, aimed at regulating the conclusion of the complex process of reconstruction of privately owned buildings damaged by the 1997 earthquake. The new legislation aims to provide local authorities involved – municipalities and region – the necessary tools to accelerate the closure of the administrative process still in progress, thus allowing the last financed reconstruction interventions to be definitively completed.

The approved text includes provisions of a regulatory and procedural nature, without any additional financial impact on the regional budget. In particular, the law introduces more streamlined methods and timescales to allow municipal and regional administrations to define the administrative procedures still open, thus concluding the long and complex process of post-earthquake reconstruction of private buildings damaged by the 1997 earthquake which struck the ‘Umbria.

The new legislation aims to accelerate the final stages of reconstruction, integrating and improving the procedures provided for by the previous regional regulations on the subject. In this way, the Umbria Region aims to provide local authorities with the necessary tools to definitively close the last funded interventions and the related administrative procedures, thus putting an end to a post-earthquake reconstruction process that lasted over twenty years.
