Mourning in Velletri: Giuseppe Savelloni has passed away at the age of 86. An esteemed and appreciated person in the city, he leaves an unfillable void in a community to which he gave so much on a social, sporting, cultural and political level. Born in 1938 in Ferentino and always a sportsman, he worked first in a public body – in Turin – and then in a bank, where he served for thirty years. A trade unionist for the CGIL, in 1981 he moved to Velletri where, among other things, he began to collaborate with Athletics Velletri, launching many young athletes and becoming a point of reference for them and beyond. Passionate about sports and specializing in athletics, he has also cultivated a lifelong passion for writing. In recent years he has published various works, both poetic anthologies and single stories included in larger collections. Velletri itself hosted the two presentations of the last two books, organized by the Memoria ‘900 Association of which Giuseppe was a proud supporter, the most recent at CREA Viticoltura-Enologia last month. Struck by an incurable disease, Savelloni was in the trenches all the way and showed great strength and powerful sensitivity.
With Giuseppe Savelloni, for many “Peppe” and for all a sincere friend, an important figure for our city leaves, an honest and respectable person always active and ready to give his contribution for the common good and the whole community. What he left us is a piercing void, as evidenced by the many messages of condolence that are arriving. Goodbye Giuseppe, we will not forget you. And thank you for what you taught us.
