A police operation led to the arrest of a multiple convicted felon originally from Vittoria, in the Ragusa area, but who has been resident in San Donato for years. The man was stopped in Sicily while he was driving a rented Audi Q3, inside which 108 kilos of hashish, in one-kilogram blocks, were discovered. The drug, if resold, would have allowed it to reach a record value of 2 million euros. The drugs were carefully hidden in the trunk of the vehicle, in three large parallelepiped-shaped packages, a method often used to evade controls. In addition to the narcotic, the officers seized 10,000 euros in 50 euro notes, hidden in a pouch. The man was immediately transferred to Ragusa prison, where he awaits trial but in the meantime his precautionary custody has been ordered by the investigating judge. «This arrest – the police say – represents a significant success for the police in the fight against drugs and underlines the authorities’ incessant commitment to protecting the community from this type of crime.
