European elections, Pd first party in Puglia. Emiliano: “A dream”

“Tonight, as the results of Antonio Decaro and the Democratic Party arrived from polling stations across the South, a dream I had been pursuing for years came true. Antonio reunified the South and the Democratic Party into a serious, cohesive, respected and loved political force. Now everything changes to restore dignity to the South.” These are the words chosen by the president of the Puglia Region, Michele Emiliano, to comment on the results of the European elections which saw Antonio Decaro first of the Democratic Party elected in the southern constituency, with a result of close to 500 thousand preferences. “The Democratic Party – concluded Emiliano – has never been the leading political force in the region despite many administrative victories. Now Puglia, also thanks to a splendid civic community, will have a greater voice and greater respect”.

The social commentary of Domenico De Santis, regional secretary of the Democratic Party, is of the same tenor. “The Democratic Party is the first party in Puglia with 33.57%. It is a historic day, an exceptional result, a day that repays the effort and silent work of building the party.” The Democratic Party, he points out, is “the leading political force in over 180 cities out of 257 including Taranto, Brindisi, Andria, Barletta, Trani and Bari. In the capital half of those who voted chose the Democrats with 49.77 %”. For De Santis the result of the polls “repays the attacks received to which we have always responded with a smile”. De Santis published a photo with Antonio Decaro which won “almost 500 thousand votes”. Same satisfaction for “the sixth and seventh places of Georgia Tramacere and Shady Alizadeh”.

Meanwhile, the counting of Apulian seats in the European Parliament in Brussels has also begun. In addition to Decaro, therefore, three places should be occupied by Francesco Ventola, Michele Picaro and Maria Chiara Gemma: all elected with Fratelli d’Italia. With them also two candidates from the 5 Star Movement: the Five Star Movement members Mario Furore from Foggia and Valentina Palmisano from Brindisi.
