Italian G7 to the starting blocks: from Thursday 13 June all eyes will be on Puglia, where the planet’s greats will gather to discuss the future. Pope Francis will also be present. The deployment of security forces will be enormous to guarantee the best conditions for carrying out the event and thousands of agents have arrived in Puglia since yesterday ready to take up service. Most of them were deployed on board one cruise ship moored in Brindisi but, upon their arrival, the uniforms reported serious discomfort due to the conditions of the ship.

The ship is currently stopped for renovation. “Respect for good taste prevents us from telling what state many areas of the ship were in, not to mention the absolute uncertainty of the preparatory phases of future services“, are the words of Daniele Gioia, regional secretary of Puglia Fsp State Police. “We immediately ask to stop the gatherings for all the men employed there, before talking about the things of the world, normality must be restored for those who must ensure security for the powerful of the world otherwise there can be no security“, are, instead, the words of Andrea Cecchiniof the Italia Celere union.

The colleagues who have been on the ship, the Goddess of the Night, since yesterday found themselves in a unseemly environment and unhealthy. After hours of queuing at the port, crowded on the quay in an attempt to get on board, they found themselves faced with a horrifying spectacle: corridors and cabins completely flooded due to water leakstoilet and clogged sinkswater leaks from sanitary fixtures, dirty environments and almost non-existent furnishings“, writes Domenico Pianese, secretary of the police union Coisp, in the letter sent to the chief of police.

The images arriving from the ship show various problems with its use, especially regarding wastewater discharges. Some cabins are flooded, others appear to have been used for furniture storage. Not even the canteen area seems to be in excellent health. “We knew of beds available elsewhere and so the first to be moved were the colleagues from the Cagliari department“, continues Gioia, who thanked the police commissioner of Brindisi, since last night on board the ship, for the efforts made to resolve the situation. “Where are the great journalists who point to us as fascists? And the associations? And the politicians who fight for the freedom of those who commit crimes?“, asks Cecchini, who then concludes: “I want to see who has the courage to be on our side this time“.

The situation inside the ship, according to what some agents tell us, is unsustainable. Impossible to stay on board and ensure security during the G7, maintaining those standards of excellence which have always characterized the Italian police forces.

Those responsible are already working to ensure that the situation is resolved as soon as possible, so that everything is ready for next June 13th. “Colleagues are not on holiday, they are there to do their jobs“, concluded Pianese.
