Eight points obtained from seven events completed, twentieth place in the world rankings, a few zeros and too many slips. There MotoGP 2024 registered Yamaha and for Alex Rins reason for great effort, not corresponding to the results of the track. The Catalan and the M1 try to pair up, they partially succeed, but the gap suffered remains significant. Will the number 42 and the Monster Energy team continue together next season? The agreement between the parties expires at the end of the season.
Rins and the M1: we can and must do better
Both the rider and the bike can and must do better. Rhetorical concept, okay, but to be justified. The twenty-eight-year-old Catalan has 18 world championship victories, among which we extrapolate 5 in the premier class signed with Suzuki, one for Honda. Among the manufacturers represented in the top series, only Yamaha is missing.
It was thought that the transition from GSX-RR to RC213 V would prove traumatic for Alex, it was, despite the success achieved in Austin. Bad injury suffered at Mugello, surgery, rest and forced absences. Back in the LCR team, he finished 2024 avoiding further damage but, historically, it remains the last name to be established for the Golden Wing.
There was also thought to be a theoretical ease in the discovery of the four-cylinder in-line engine, with which the M1 is equipped. He had to remind him of the Hamamatsu unit, though the only “piece” already known remains. Between chassis, electronics, aerodynamics and complete package, the three tuning forks model is making him struggle.
Rins expiring: Davide Brivio is there
Rins’ contract expires at the end of 2024, as it is annual. Were the driver, like the manufacturer and the team, “prudent” in their mutual union? Maybe and, although two thirds of the championship is missing, they are already talking about the appropriate alternatives. Yamaha likes Alonso Lopez, for example, they don’t even disdain Sergio Garcia.
Alex likes Davide Brivio, in professional terms, that is. And the thing is reciprocated: together, in Suzuki, they brought excellent satisfaction to the Ecstar garage. We once heard about the interest shown by Trackhouse Aprilia from Barcelona, with a view to the future.
Future, but close. The satellite RS-GP is highly coveted, many would gladly drive it, also because it will be a 2025 version. The knowledge between Alex Rins and Davide Brivio is already at a high level, will it be extended under the Noale brand managed by the Americans? Joan Mir also likes the idea, who knows if a couple that has already been seen and tested will ever be reconstituted.
