On Saturday morning, a lady from Bolzano went to the police headquarters complaints office to report that an unknown non-EU citizen had illegally occupied an area of his home in Via Penegal. The neighbors had noticed a constant coming and going of suspicious individuals at all hours.

Two state police patrols were sent to the scene. Upon entering the house, the officers found the typical disorder of an illegally occupied house and a man still in bed. Identified as BD, a 32-year-old Moroccan with international protection, the individual has numerous criminal records, including property crimes and detention for the purpose of drug trafficking. Convicted in 2020 for residential burglary, BD attempted to escape out the window at the sight of the officers, trying to get rid of two socks.

The promptness of the police made it possible to block the fugitive and recover the socks, which contained approximately 15 grams of cocaine ready for trafficking. The search of the house revealed further evidence: two precision scales with traces of cocaine and 1,700 euros in cash, presumably proceeds from the drug dealing activity, given that BD does not carry out any work activity.

Taken to the police station, BD was arrested for possession for the purpose of dealing drugs and resisting a public official. The police commissioner of Bolzano, Paolo Sartori, issued a mandatory deportation order with a ban on returning to the municipality of Bolzano for four years and requested the revocation of the international protection status to proceed with the expulsion.

“The illegal occupation of homes is a deplorable act, often committed against those who cannot defend themselves,” declared Commissioner Sartori. “In this case, the situation was even more serious since the individual, taking advantage of international protection, had transformed the apartment into a base for cocaine dealing. An intolerable situation, which I have decided to put a drastic end to.”
