The exhibition itinerary was designed to be divided into 9 locations – Town Hall Zelantea Hall, Church of San Benedetto, Church of San Rocco, Bellini Theater, Church of the “agonizing” San Crispino, Church of Santa Maria Odigitria, Diocesan Museum, Zelantea Academy, Cathedral of Ss.ma Maria Annunziata – where the concept of EGO and all the endings referring to it are analyzed through the works of Giuseppe Patanè.

The extensive anthology retraces the salient moments of Giuseppe Patanè’s artistic research, but above all the stages of that social and ethical commitment which is now an indispensable and indispensable element of the very definition of “contemporary art”. The exhibition presents works extrapolated from different cycles The force of nature, Wounds, Shipwrecks, Show must not go on, Senzatutto (Snow), Ego, Omens, Dialogues, Know thyself and takes the form of a combination of real cameos that form a sort of wunderkammer in which Naturalia and Mirabilia alternate according to a pressing narrative rhythm.

Giuseppe Patanè’s multifaceted artistic research is based on underlining social issues and recalling those forms of respect towards our fellow men, and towards the world that hosts us, which have now become indifferent. An ethical and aesthetic vision of reality, which draws inspiration and lifeblood from the historical/cultural traditions of the Sicilian land and the Mediterranean culture, from the innate sense of mutual respect and from the sharing, through the language of art, of universal values.

«The artistic path of Giuseppe Patanè, for its peculiarities – he explains Carlo Michelicurator of the exhibition – imposes the need for a constant and systematic rereading of his production, the verification of that common thread which underlines its artistic coherence, despite the heterogeneity of the stylistic choices adopted. In the venues made available by the city and the diocese of Acireale, therefore, it was chosen to present works from different cycles, with references to the historical-mythological roots of the Sicilian land, to its cultural traditions, to the very concept of beauty which becomes attraction and respect for the immense force of nature, of the volcano, of the sea. What unites and justifies the artefacts (and never has a term been more appropriate) – paintings, sculptures, installations, furnishing objects, jewels, alchemical experiments, everything is created by the artist’s hands alone, without the aid of brushes, spatulas or any other tool or instrument – so heterogeneous is Patanè’s “modus operandi”, based on emotion, which is later praised rationally and conceptualized but which, at first glance, is the fruit of an emotional impetus, of a visceral response to negative stress of various kinds, such as injustice, mistreatment, dishonesty, inequalities, falsehood.»

Patanè transforms indignation, pain, offense into concrete acts of the opposite sign, counterattacking with extreme clarity and effectiveness, using the very sharp weapon of art. One perceives in his works a formal balance capable of enhancing the various components, without failures or prevarications, masterfully balancing content and form.

Painting, sculpture, photography, ready made, contaminate each other, effectively canceling the preconceived and sectoral barriers, on the contrary exalting the points of contact and fusion between genres and styles, preferring incisiveness to the recognizability of one’s work. of the intervention and the unequivocality of the contents.
