In the reign of Roberto Occhiuto, Forza Italiawhich stops at 17.99%, is overtaken by Brothers of Italy (20.56%) which becomes the first party in the Region. An exploit for Giorgia Meloni’s party which in the previous European consultations was just above 10%.

The data from Southern Italy

In the southern Italian constituency the Democratic Party is the first party (24.35% growth compared to five years ago); followed just below Fratelli d’Italia (23.59 which is an incredible leap compared to the previous European elections when it was at 7.56%). This is followed by the Five Star Movement (16.83%, in the 2019 European elections it was 29.16%) and Forza Italia (10.75%). The collapse of the Northern League at a national level is confirmed above all in the South, while the Greens and Left Alliance achieved a good result (5.66%).

The Calabrian situation

Said of the exponential growth of Fratelli d’Italia and the result of Forza Italia, the 5 Star Movement with 16.16% of the preferences it does not suffer the national collapse that brought it below 10% even if compared to 2019 it loses 10% of the votes. Grillini which are located just above the Democratic party (15.91%). There League in Calabria it suffers an incredible collapse, going from being the second party in 2019 (22.61%) to just over 9% in line with the national bankruptcy figure: evidently Salvini’s efforts for the Bridge have not convinced the Calabrians.
United States of Europe (which in Italy did not exceed the 4% barrier and remained outside the European Parliament) reaches 6.14%, very slightly above Green Left Alliance (5.94%) which – also thanks to the votes of students away from home in Northern Italy – has an important success at a national level and brings Mimmo Lucano to Brussels.

The vote in the Crotone area

In the province of Crotonebut also in the capital, the 5 Star Movement (which elected the former INPS president, Pasquale Tridico, originally from Scala Coeli, in Brussels) remains the first party: at the provincial level it reaches 20.94% (however losing 12 points compared to the 2019 European elections) barely exceeding Brothers of Italy (19.26%) which in 2019 was just 8.47%.
He arrives on the podium Forza Italia (18.43%) also thanks to 4,453 votes preferably to the regional councilor Giuseppina Princi which is the most voted in the Crotone area. The PD reaches 16.89%, losing 3 points compared to the 2019 European elections. League also in free fall in the Crotone area where in the previous European elections it had 21.88% and now it doesn’t even reach 10%.

Crotone’s preferences

The regional data is almost identical to that recorded in the city of Crotone with the 5 Star Movement still the first party (26.63% but with 12 points less than 2019), Brothers of Italy which goes from 4.36% five years ago to 19.77% and becomes the second political force in the city; the only difference compared to the regional data is the Democratic party which in Crotone comes third at 17.04% (in 2019 it was second with 21.73%) and surpasses Forza Italia which in any case with 14.59% doubles the consensus compared to previous consultations.
Left Green Alliance collects a good 7.14% putting under the League which in Crotone recorded the most significant loss, going from 21% of the votes obtained in 2019 to just 6.5%, votes which evidently went to Fratelli d’Italia and Forza Italia.
The result of is null and void Action which in Crotone reaches just above 1%, while United States of Europe does not exceed 4%.

Very low turnout

The Calabrian and Crotone data must be read in consideration of the very low turnout which denotes the detachment of citizens from the Europeans. At a national level, it had never happened in the history of the European elections that a percentage below 50% went to vote. At the constituency level, the turnout in Southern Italy (43.69%) was the lowest excluding the islands.
In Calabria the lowest one was recorded in the southern constituency with 40.28% of voters; the Province of Crotone, in turn, is the last in terms of voter turnout with the 33.82%. In the city of Crotone, however, just 28.29% of those entitled to vote went to the polls; the Crotone municipality with the lowest percentage of voters is even Capo Rizzuto Island, where just 21.87% of voters went to the polls. In San Mauro Marchesato, where however there are also municipal elections, 79.08% of voters voted.
