Vannacci, Salis, Decaro: the top preferences of the newly elected MEPs

The official results of the European elections which were held in the last weekend left behind give Italy the imminent inauguration of 76 MEPs. Between personal exploits and sometimes not entirely unexpected surprises, the number of preferences obtained from individual candidates photographs a situation that goes beyond the general outcome of the parties that were present on the ballot papers. The vote of Italians for the European elections is now largely stabilized, with Brothers of Italy which is close to 29% and Democratic party which goes above 24%, here are the exponents who can consider themselves more than satisfied with their performance, regardless of the percentage obtained from the reference list

As it was obvious to predict, the absolute record holder of personal acclaim is Giorgia Meloni, who is preparing to overcome the 2 millions of preferences, having lined up as the leader in all five constituencies. Despite his excellent personal performance, the Prime Minister does not come close to Silvio Berlusconi’s record of personal approval in 1999: at the time it was three million votes. The prime minister, naturally, will give up her seat to other members of the list, but the fact remains that the first name “Giorgia” contributed to ensuring that Italy’s leading party improved the consensus obtained in September 2022.

Certainly, the candidacy of was also very popular Roberto Vannacci. The general’s name has been echoing since at least last August after the publication of his book “The World in Reverse”. Never-ending controversies accompanied the path of the former commander of the “Folgore” parachute brigade, who – also in the wake of the numerous criticisms received – decided to run with the League after the offer made by Matteo Salvini. And this is how Vannacci surpassed everyone in the number of preferences received by the newly elected MEPs: half a million votes obtained, with records in the North West constituency, and Carroccio which increased votes compared to 20 months ago.

Another “external” candidacy that has made inroads among Italian voters, albeit for reasons that are certainly diametrically opposed to Vannacci’s, is Ilaria Salis. The activist who is currently under house arrest in Budapest was undoubtedly instrumental in the more than successful imposition of the Greens-Left electoral cartel, which even jumped up to 6.7%: in the North West, Salis is sailing beyond the 115 thousand votes and in the South they are added another 42 thousand. Nicola Fratoianni and Angelo Bonelli rejoice on the night of the electoral count: “Ilaria is a newly elected European parliamentarian“. The former mayors were also very good Leoluca Orlando and Mimmo Lucano.

Then we arrive at the Democratic Party. If the secretary Elly Schlein (candidate in the Center and in the Islands) does not exceed 200,000 votes, another figure not directly belonging to the party structure triumphs as Cecilia Strada: in the North West the daughter of the founder of Emergency collects 235 thousand votes and clearly surpasses the second arrival, the outgoing mayor of Bergamo Giorgio Gori. Within the dems, the exploit of the now former mayor of Bari emerges Antonio Decaro, which recently ended up at the center of a controversy with judicial implications during the electoral campaign. The citizens of the southern Italian constituency gave him good credit 482,900 votes, drags the entire party to a surprising result: Puglia becomes the second “red” stronghold after Emilia Romagna and before Tuscany.

In a bad night without any appeal, in the 5 Star Movement the only name to emerge is that of the former INPS president Pasquale Tridico: the citizen’s income ultra was able to add 115 thousand preferences in the Southern constituency. In Forza Italia the record holder of preferences is Antonio Tajani: the Foreign Minister has approximately 100 thousand preferences in the constituencies in which he took the field, while in the country he has a peak of 130 thousand.

In the North West it ranks third overall Letizia Moratti (36 thousand votes. In the centrist disaster, in any case the 150 thousand preferences of Matteo Renzi of its United States of Europe (still below 4%).
