With a few sections still to be scrutinized – specifically, four out of 3926 – Elly Schlein’s Democratic Party is the first party in Tuscany according to the results of the European elections. The Democratic Party achieved more than half a million preferences, reaching 31.90 percent, with the highest figures recorded in Florence with 35.61 in the city and 36.57 in the province.

Among the most voted in the Party, as regards the Center Constituency, is the former mayor of Florence Dario Nardella.
Behind the Democratic Party, Fratelli d’Italia is positioned with 27.44 percent while Giuseppe Conte’s 5 Star Movement is in third place. For the former professor of the University of Florence, a sharp drop in votes came to just over 8 percent compared to approximately double the number obtained in the previous elections.

“We take note of the result, which is certainly very disappointing – Conte remarked directly to the microphones at the Movement’s headquarters – we could have done better. We will start an internal reflection and we will work harder than before to be an alternative to this government. We need to ask ourselves about the changing France-Germany political axis”.

Regional exploit for the Greens and Left Alliance which stands as the fourth regional force with 7.55 percent, ahead of Forza Italia/Noi Moderati/EPP with 6.28 percent of the preferences.

Vertical collapse of the League which went from first place in the central constituency of the last European electoral round – where it had obtained more than 30 percent – to 6.21.

Immediately behind, with 4.8 percent, is Matteo Renzi’s United States of Europe. A percentage that would have allowed him to reach parliament if replicated on a national scale where it instead stood at around 3.6 percent.

Three percent for Peace, Land and Dignity, 2.81 for Calenda Action, 0.85 percent for Sovereign and Popular Democracy, 0.57 percent for Freedom and 0.39 for Popular Alternative.

With the polls closed, the turnout for the European elections was 59.08 percent while the previous one was 65.75.

In the province of Florence the turnout was 65.11 and 64.42 in the city.

As regards the votes, in the Central Constituency, which in addition to Tuscany also includes Umbria, Marche and Lazio, the winner was the Brothers of Italy with 31.28 percent of the votes ahead of the Democratic Party which remained at 26.51 and 5 Stars at 9.36.
