CERVIA – Restoration works on the waters of the Savio river do not need to be subject to an Environmental Impact Assessment. The Region decided it: the aim of the project is to restore the hydraulic efficiency of the river in the river stretch that goes from Matellica/Cannuzzo to Savio di Ravenna and Cervia and the adaptation of the embankments downstream of the towns of Castiglione di Ravenna and Cervia up to the localities Bottega della Guarniera and Villa Ragazzena, on previously expropriated areas. Works necessary following the flood of May 2023 and in this sense the Region has subjected the intervention to those under the aegis of the commissioner.

The project envisages in detail the movement of the right embankment, for a stretch of approximately 1200 meters (in the municipality of Cervia) downstream from the town of Castiglione di Cervia, with a maximum translation of approximately 10-15 meters externally, on state land, already expropriated. On the other side of the river, the left embankment body is expected to move for a stretch of approximately 500 meters (in the municipality of Ravenna) downstream from the town of Castiglione di Ravenna, with a maximum translation of approximately 20-25 meters still on land state property already expropriated, creating the floodplain area. The report states that “whose main function is to increase the volume of the reservoir and, therefore, reduce flood water levels and facilitate the disposal of flows in transit”. After approval from, among others, the forestry police. According to what was stated in the Region’s final report, “the changes provide for the safety of the watercourse with a more precautionary solution than the current one, whose ineffectiveness was demonstrated during the flood of May 2023”. Furthermore, “almost all of the excavated earth and rocks produced on site will be reused on site to create the new embankment; the road system will be involved exclusively for the supply of further material from the quarry and for the disposal of demolition material from a hydraulic structure present on the embankment, generating reduced traffic”.
