ANCONA The disruption continued for at least five hours. Then, salvation in the early afternoon: the arrival of three generators, quite impressive from a sound and visual point of view, in the port area. The blackout that yesterday brought some commercial activities to their knees and severely tested the patience of residents was created by a fault in the electricity lines that run between the Vanvitelli seafront, Via della Loggia and the Nazario Sauro quay. It was around 9am that the first problems occurred.
The reports
These were reported by residents of the area, who had already experienced continuous blackouts in recent weeks. The light went off for a few minutes, then came back. A problem already reported to those responsible but, evidently, not completely resolved. Until the long absence of electricity yesterday morning. The port’s catering activities had the most serious complications. «I opened at 9, the power was out. I had to send the staff away and call those who had booked for lunch” says Andrea Manganelli of the bar of the same name a stone’s throw from Portella Santa Maria. “What did I do? I had to close, thus losing a day of work.” Somehow, despite a thousand inconveniences and emergency solutions, Marinella Manganelli of Locanda del Porto (La Bitta) moved forward. Despite everything, she managed to save a communion lunch with about ten guests. However, she gave up oven-cooked dishes, such as the typical dish of sardines, and cold drinks.
The story
«Somehow we managed to save the lunch to celebrate communion» assures the owner of Bitta. «But unfortunately we had to cancel other reservations, at least forty». Any damage to the products contained in refrigerators and freezers must be assessed. Around 2.30 pm, Enel technicians, who worked all day to try to resolve the fault, tried to save the situation and reduce the inconvenience by placing the generators. One was placed along the slope of the Repubblica gate, close to the barrier that gives access to the port. Another was placed behind the Portella Santa Maria, yet another was placed near the reproductions of the cannons in the port. «We were closed this morning (yesterday, ed.). We opened for an aperitif. The electricity is there, thanks to the generators, but the noise is deafening” says Gianni Nicolini of Amarcord.
The ferries
From the point of view of ferry traffic, according to the Harbor Office, fortunately no inconveniences, delays or complications of any kind were noted. In any case, merchant ships are not connected to the land electricity grid, they are completely autonomous as regards electricity.
