European elections 2024: turnout data

The polls closed at 11pm today, Sunday 9 June, and voting for the European elections has ended. The first data that is analyzed while waiting for the results that will be available in a few hours is that of the turnout, which in the Pontine area does not even reach 50%.

In the province of Latina, citizens are deserting the polls: participation among the Pontine voters called to vote to choose the members of the next European Parliament is very low. An important fact that clearly highlights a strong disaffection and reflects an abstentionism on which more than one reflection should be made.

Using the numbers released by the Ministry of the Interior, and definitive only more than two hours after the polls closed on the Eligendo website, 44.69% of eligible voters voted in the province of Latina. A figure that is confirmed as the lowest in all of Lazio, and the only one together with that of the capital below 50%. Five years ago the turnout was 52.52% with almost 8 percentage points less today.

The highest percentages come, and we can now confirm this, from the municipalities in the area where local elections were also voted on, while some centers in the rest of the area have just touched 40%, or are slightly higher. The case of Sezze is emblematic where the turnout was 37.83%; in Latina city, however, 44.73% of voters expressed their opinion.

The national figure, not yet definitive, is 49.6%, the regional one is just under 46.6%.
