Fiumicino airport, duty free rats in action: complaints are filed

From passengers to thieves in the duty free shops of Fiumicino airport. This is a story that repeats itself and which features people who find themselves passing through the Leonardo da Vinci airport.

Fines amounting to thousands of euros at the airport even for drivers who do not comply with the law

At the airport in the last few hours the police from the local station have carried out checks and managed to nab a lot 11 passengers, all reported for attempted theft.

These are both Italian and foreign people who, after visiting the duty free shops at the airport, took some goods placed on the shelves and then attempted to go past the checkouts without paying for what they had taken.

They were passengers waiting for their respective flights. The police at the airport station recovered all the stolen goods, including cosmetics, perfumes and tobacco products worth approximately 4,500 euros. The thieves were reported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Civitavecchia.

Another complaint was filed against a person who had violated the D.AC.UR, or the Urban DaspoWhile 8 drivers, including seven NCCs and a taxi driver, they were caught while procuring customers in prohibited areas and were therefore sanctioned.

Some checks at the airport

The checks aimed at combating the abusive operation of non-scheduled public transport activities. In the case of the man reported for violating the urban Daspo, he is a person who was banned from accessing urban areas for 8 months, but who stopped at the airport without justified reason.

The seven NCC drivers, however, and the taxi driver were looking for customers among the passengers in transit at the exit of the Terminal 1. They were therefore not within the stalls foreseen for them and had no right to obtain customers. The sanctions imposed by the military, in total, amount to approximately 16,500 euros.

Furthermore, four of the sanctioned drivers did not have the documentation certifying the request for the professional service. They were ordered to stay away for 48 hours and received a further fine of 100 euros. each.
