10.45am – Sunday 9 June 2024

From Friday 28th to Sunday 30th June the event will attract many professionals and wine lovers, including tastings, masterclasses and opportunities to discover the valley. Also on the calendar is the announcement of the winners of the 21st Müller Thurgau International Wine Competition, again this year entrusted to Andrea Amadei.

Summer in Val di Cembra has the unmistakable scent of Müller Thurgau: in fact, the 37th edition of Müller Thurgau: Mountain wine is approaching, the now historic event scheduled this year from 28 to 30 June in the municipality of Cembra Lisignago and the surrounding area.

Like every year, in the elegant rooms of Palazzo Maffei, wine lovers and enthusiasts will have the opportunity to taste dozens of labels of the vine created at the end of the 19th century by the Swiss researcher Hermann Müller, originally from the canton of Thurgau, through the cross between Riesling Renano and Madeleine Royal.

A vine that has found the ideal place to express itself on the terraces supported by over 700 km of dry stone walls, thanks above all to the porphyry soils and the strong temperature range that characterizes the Cembra Valley, but which is also successfully produced in other areas of Italy and Europe.

Highly versatile, fresh and fragrant, it is the ideal choice for aperitifs and dinners in the summer, especially in this historical moment which sees the appreciation for white wines growing all over the world.

As part of the event, a highlight for enthusiasts and professionals will be the award ceremony of the 21st Müller Thurghau International Wine Competition, presented again this year, with the usual verve and passion, by Andrea Amadei, professional sommelier and radio speaker of Decanter, face of the Rai1 television program “È Semper Mezzogiorno” and editorial director of the magazine “The art of wine”.

And then the “Fuori di Taste” space, where on Friday and Saturday evenings the best wine productions of the valley will be offered in the bar, complete with musical accompaniment, dinner along the avenue, enriched by a dance show, and the corner dedicated to lovers of spirits and mixed drinks, where bartender Leonardo Veronesi will propose new cocktails with grappa as the protagonist.

Finally, there are various opportunities to discover the area, such as the “Heroes” trekking among the vineyards, slow-paced walks with alpacas and the “Cantine in saddle” e-bike tour, without forgetting the Taste Experiences proposed by the Strada del Wine and Flavors of Trentino.

Profile Müller Thurgau
Born between 1882 and 1891 from the cross between Rhenish Riesling and Madeleine Royal by the hand of prof. Hermann Müller, Müller Thurgau is a vine that ripens best in the mountains and has found its ideal habitat in the Cembra Valley, an area sheltered by mountains and woods and characterized by porphyry soils and strong temperature variations. From the vinification of its grapes, a pale straw yellow white wine with greenish reflections is obtained, a very evident aromatic component, with hints of aromatic herbs, elderberry, tropical fruit and citrus fruits. Savory, mineral, with pleasant acidity: typical characteristics of mountain wines.
