WEATHER FORECAST IN PIEDMONT

Yellow warning for thunderstorms. The high pressure promontory that has maintained stable weather over our region in recent days has begun to give way under the combined pressure of a trough arriving from the west and a vast depression area descending from the north. The effect of this change in the state of the atmosphere was an increase in instability in the Alps and adjacent plains, with thunderstorms forming close to the mountains and possibly spilling over into neighboring areas. Today, after a morning with phenomena still mostly confined to the reliefs, we will witness a new intensification of storms and their more decisive transit over the plains. At the moment, more isolated phenomena are expected in Astigiano and Alessandrino. Thunderstorms may be accompanied by widespread hailstorms, even of medium size. Some isolated vortex phenomena cannot be ruled out. The instability will remain, to a lesser extent, also for the following days, when widespread showers are expected, but at the moment it is not possible to make hypotheses about their location and intensity with a sufficient degree of accuracy. In light of the expected situation, the Functional Center has issued a yellow alert for today and tomorrow in the Alpine sectors. The update from Harp Piedmont.

WEATHER FORECAST

Meteorology, literally “study of celestial phenomena”, is the branch of atmospheric and Earth sciences that studies the physical phenomena that occur in the Earth’s atmosphere (troposphere) and are responsible for the weather. Weather forecasts are usually obtained by the following procedure:

• observation and measurement of atmospheric variables (for example wind speed and direction, air temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure);
• transcription, study and processing of data collected on synoptic maps or by assimilating the data through mathematical models that run on digital calculators. Where in the latter case the meteorological situation of a given moment is produced, called analysis;
• future prognosis starting from the synoptic maps. Or by evolving the initial condition through the use of mathematical meteorological models (forecast).
