MARINA DI GROSSETO. A large illuminated sign, with the writing “Marina di Grosseto”, dominated by two steel dolphins, jumping from the water. This is how the roundabout at the entrance to Marina di Grosseto will appear in the coming months after an intervention that the Municipality will carry out at its own expense following an agreement with the Province which owns it.

The Quattro Strade roundabout, as it is commonly called, will be redeveloped by a project carried out by the in-house company Sistema, which wants to intervene with some “beautification” works and completion of street furniture, to further enhance the access area to the sea, to make it better appreciated by the customers and tourists who go to the summer tourist resort. For over half a century, motorists who go to the seaside village have been welcomed by a banner, which has become an icon, “Welcome to Marina di Grosseto”, but soon, traveling along the provincial road 158 of Collacchie or even arriving from the renovated cycle path that from the city door to the sea – also awaiting latest generation LED lighting – you will come across this large sign positioned at the intersection between Collacchie and provincial road 40 della Trappola.

The redevelopment of the roundabout will cost the municipal administration of Grosseto 16,750 euros, plus VAT at 22%, and will find financial coverage in the 2024 financial year from municipal resources compatibly with the planning documents to be approved and with the verification of the financial spaces that can be used for the purposes of maintaining a balanced budget. The project by the Sistema company involves the creation of a new flowerbed, to be positioned inside the roundabout, approximately 4 meters from the external curb. The same will be surrounded by a curb flush with the ground and filled with white pebble, for a total size of 9 linear meters and a depth of approximately 3 and a half metres. The writing will be made of press-bent and laser-carved galvanized steel, painted with an effect powdered “corten”.

It will be equipped with a reinforced concrete support sub-structure and will have a frontal dimension of 8 meters and a height of approximately 1.20 meters including the sub-structure. Behind the writing, some sculptures will be positioned, as mentioned, two dolphins made of brushed steel-colored metal also equipped with supports, for a height of 2.70 meters from the ground. To crown the sculptures of the two cetaceans, a “solar arch” will be positioned centrally to the writing and the two dolphins, also in brushed steel-colored metal, with a total size of 6.50 meters frontally. «The tourist promotion of seaside resorts – observed the municipal council, when approving the project – can also be encouraged with the installation of informative street furniture; the roundabout at the intersection between Via Grossetana and Strada Provinciale delle Collacchie, representing the most important road crossroads for the locality of Marina di Grosseto, does not have a sign with an indication of the place that enhances the most important seaside resort of our Municipality”.
