With deep sorrow, Bishop Domenico Cornacchia together with the diocesan clergy announces the passing of Don Girolamo Samarelli for all Don Gino.
Don Gino, a priest from Molfetta born in 1954, passed away this morning following an illness. Ordained a priest on 22 June 1979, during his ministry he was parish priest of the Madonna della Rosa parish (1989-2018), carefully following its new construction. Parish priest of the Cathedral of Molfetta and teacher of Catholic Religion at the “L. da Vinci” of Molfetta. Don Gino was director of the diocesan weekly Luce e Vita from 1984 to 1987, founder of the Digressione Music label and we remember him for the great contribution he offered in the first moments of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, managing to transfer some Ukrainian refugees from Lviv to Italy. Since last year he has been an active part of the management of the cultural services of the diocesan museum.
Don Gino’s body will be kept vigil at the Molfetta Cathedral from 12pm on Sunday 9 June until 12pm on Monday 10 June. At 4.30 pm in the Cathedral of Molfetta the funeral celebration was presided over by HE Monsignor Domenico Cornacchia.
The Diocese invites all the faithful to join in prayer for the beloved Don Gino and for those who mourn his absence.
