Capo d’Orlando, accustomed to these moments, lives in this state the hours preceding the dispute of game 3 of the playoff final of the Conference South which this evening, at the Infodrive Arena (tape-ball at 6pm), will decide who, between Orlandina and Virtus Ragusa (1-1 after the first two matches), will be promoted to the National Serie B and will be rewarded by the president of the regional FIP, Cristina Correnti from Messina, who will be present as happened last Wednesday in Ragusa. A Sicilian team will triumph, but the loser will have the chance with an appeal: they will play the further final, against Loreto Pesaro who lost the playoff final of the Conference Center and the home advantage will eventually be held by Capo d’Orlando. “We worked for a year to get to this match – says coach Domenico Bolignano – because we all knew, at the beginning of the season, that between 5th or 9th June, the first team would be promoted. We wanted to get there first in the standings to take advantage of the home advantage and we succeeded. Now it’s our turn.” What is worrying is the physical state which does not appear to be at its best, in particular Palermo, Jasaitis and Gatti have suffered some problems. “It’s normal – continues the Reggio coach – for it to happen when you play every three days in the playoffs. After the match in Ragusa we worked more than anything to recover everyone, we did it and we are ready to take the field.” There is no need to ask for public support. “I am seeing the atmosphere of great anticipation in the town, I am sure that the stands will be filled again this evening, it is clear that the fans are asking us for promotion and we will do everything to achieve it this evening. Certainly, for what has been done throughout the season, both Orlandina and Virtus Ragusa deserve to be promoted.” The fans are preparing great choreographies but for the start of the match and nothing transpires about what will happen at the end, in case of victory, perhaps due to a superstitious issue. The cabal says that Orlandina, in its history that began in 1962 and with the club change in 1978, tonight can win the eighth promotion with the presidency of Enzo Sindoni and the fourteenth overall and, at home, it played and won the match -3 of the playoff finals on 20 May 1984 beating Cap Reggio Calabria with promotion to C1 and on 5 June 2011 beating Viola Reggio Calabria and winning the A Dilettanti (formerly B1). Virtus Ragusa which, between the 1990s and 2000s, was in B1 for a long time and almost reached A2 with the current mayor of the Iblean city Giuseppe Cassì as captain, has been missing from the national panorama of B for over fifteen years.
