Simone Borgese, 39, is currently under house arrest for the sexual assault on a 22-year-old student. Investigations continue to verify whether the former waiter and former worker, father of a teenager and already convicted on two previous occasions on the same charge, has attacked other women since his release from prison in November 2021.

Serial rapist

The investigating judge Maddalena Cipriani raised the doubt that there may be other women who fell victim to Borgese. In his order, Cipriani noted that home detention is adequate to prevent recidivism, even without the use of an electronic bracelet. The 39-year-old is already known for raping a taxi driver in 2015 and molesting a 17-year-old the previous year. The hypothesis is that her behavior may have been serial, and that she may have acted in five neighborhoods of Rome: Magliana, Portuense, Villa Bonelli, Ponte Galeria and Piana del Sole, where she lives and her partner works as a bartender. A hypothetical broad field of action, in which investigators are now analyzing reports of sexual violence and harassment committed in the last 31 months. At the moment there are no new reports, but investigators have launched an appeal to any victims of violence to come forward.

Suspected cases

Two suspicious incidents are already under investigation. Investigators are comparing numerous elements, including photographic identification of Borgese, his old gray Fiat Multipla and security camera footage. Another crucial piece of evidence is DNA testing, which could be compared with genetic profiles collected in other unsolved cases of sexual violence and reveal further crimes committed by the 39-year-old after his release from prison, which occurred after six years in prison for two convictions: seven and a half years for the rape of the taxi driver and two years and ten months for the molestation of the minor. Previously, Borgese had been investigated for exhibitionism.

The house arrests

Borgese could appear today before the investigating judge for the hearing to validate the arrest. He could make use of the right not to respond. The Prosecutor’s Office intends to appeal to the Review within ten days to request an aggravation of the precautionary measure, considering house detention insufficient.
