Turin and Piedmont: storms are arriving. And the rain warning goes off. Forecasts
Arpa Piemonte has issued a new weather alert: “Today and tomorrow in Piedmont yellow weather alert” for thunderstorms. Strong thunderstorms are forecast for the afternoon close to the Alps, possibly transiting from the south-west to the north-east over the western and northern plains; more limited phenomena on Astigiano and Alessandria. Tomorrow, especially from the afternoon, the storms will be more widespread and will also include all the plains; less intense phenomena in the south-east. Possible hailstorms of medium size and strong gusts of wind”:
“For the afternoon – the note continues – “ Strong thunderstorms are expected close to the Alps, possibly transiting from the south-west to the north-east over the western and northern plains; more limited phenomena in Astigiano and Alessandria,” the surveillance bulletin points out. “Tomorrow, especially from the afternoon, the storms will be more widespread and will also include all the plains; less intense phenomena in the south-east. Possible hailstorms of medium size and strong gusts of wind. Reduction from Monday.”
“The high pressure promontory that has maintained stable weather over our region in recent days is starting to give way under the combined pressure of a trough arriving from the west and a vast depression area descending from the north”, continues the press release –
“The effect of this change in the state of the atmosphere will be, today, an increase in instability with thunderstorms forming close to the Alpine mountains and possibly spilling over into the adjacent plains. Tomorrow, after a morning with phenomena still mostly confined to the reliefs, we will witness a new intensification of storms and their more decisive transit over the plains. At the moment, more isolated phenomena are expected in Astigiano and Alessandrino. Thunderstorms may be accompanied by widespread hailstorms, even of medium size. Some isolated vortex phenomena cannot be ruled out. The instability will remain, to a lesser extent, for the following days.”
