“With exemplary courage and conscious disregard for danger, he did not hesitate to enter a building affected by a large fire, managing to rescue an elderly woman who was trapped inside her home. Clear example of chosen civic virtues and uncommon sense of duty.” With these motivations, the Minister of the Interior, through the Prefect of L’Aquila, Giancarlo Di Vincenzo, awarded the Marshal the Bronze Medal for Civil Valor Alessandro Mastropietro for years commander of the San Demetrio nei Vestini carabinieri station, today head of the Labor Inspectorate Unit (Nil) also of the Army based in L’Aquila. The honor granted to the Marshal on the occasion of the traditional Army Festival which was held on 5 June at the Villa Comunale, refers to the fire in a shed, caused by the malfunction of the gas hob of an external kitchen in a villa in Villa Sant’Angelo, which had caused the death of Remo Nardis, 82 years old, and the wounding of his wife, respectively father and mother of the town’s mayor, Domenico, in 2016. Precisely during the agitated phases, the elderly man’s wife, Isabella Andreassi, 77 years old, who had tried to help him, was taken away from the hell of flames and fire by the commander of the Carabinieri station, Alessandro Mastropietro, to be transferred to the Adults Center. burns and plastic surgery patients at the Sant’Eugenio hospital in Rome for having suffered second and third degree burns. She, an elderly woman, died approximately twenty days after hospitalization due to the severity of the burns she sustained.
