COSENZA – They opened a few moments ago the ballot boxes throughout Calabria to elect the Italian members who will be part of the new European Parliament. Voting takes place today until 11pm and tomorrow, June 9th, from 7am to 11pm. In these same hours polling stations are also open for the administrative round which involves 135 Calabrian municipalities, 65 in the province of Cosenza where there are two municipalities voting with a population exceeding 15 thousand inhabitantsthe: Corigliano-Rossano and Montalto Uffugo. For administrative elections lThe possible run-off round will take place on Sunday 23 and Monday 24 June.

The voter must show up at the polling station with a valid identity document and electoral card. Those who do not have the latter will be able to request it, even on voting days, from the electoral office of their municipality. For the European elections the voter can draw a symbol on the chosen list even without indicating any candidate. You can vote for only one list. They can be expressed next to the symbol up to a maximum of three preferences, indicating the surname of the chosen candidates who must belong to the voted list. A split vote which would annul the ballot is therefore not permittedto. If you choose to express two or three preferences, these must concern candidates of different genders, so as not to cancel the second and third preferences. The electoral system is proportional; the threshold to participate in the distribution of seats is 4% of the votes at a national level. Voters will have a card available which will be of a different color depending on the constituency they belong to: arancione, for electoral constituency IV – Southern Italy (Abruzzo, Molise, Campania, Puglia, Basilicata, Calabria. Eighteen is the minimum voting age; 25 years to apply. In the latter case, Italy is the country with the highest limit in Europe, together with Greece. For the administrative elections, the possible run-off round will take place on Sunday 23rd and Monday 24th June.

Meanwhile Abstention is the most feared specter of these elections and for a Region which in recent years has seen one in two voters desert their seats.
