POWER – “Now or never”. This is the motto of Vincenzo Telesca, candidate for mayor in Potenza, with the support of 5 civic lists, including that of the Democratic Party without a symbol due to the splits in the party.

Councilor Telesca, the center-left presents itself at the municipal elections fragmented. Why the choice to run for mayor?

“Why not? If union had been found I would have taken a step back, when one party breaks away and the other continues to not find an agreement on the existing people, it is normal that we should be divided in the first part but as if we were three comrades who travel the same path”

Was this union that complicated?

“The center-left arrived fragmented after trying to find unity. This must be said. This square was not found because there were some who, after the first day of participating at the table, decided not to do so anymore. Afterwards, other parties tried not to find a single solution not with the people already present but to replace everything. It seemed a little artificial and in the end there was a sort of creation of primaries. In fact, on the 8th and 9th there will be the centre-left primaries”

So for you the run-off will be the result of the primaries, considering that you are counting on reaching the run-off?

“Certain! However, we centre-left mayoral candidates have met and the agreement is that whoever gets to the ballot will have the support of the other two”

What are the priorities Potenza needs?

“They are a lot. In these five years there has been a sort of blackout. The priorities are essential services because local public transport does not work. In 2019 the Guarente era enters and from then until today it has never been revisited, yet we need local public transport because we have a city that experiences mobility problems in the historic center, for students, for the districts towards the historic center . Furthermore, there is the non-connection between rubber and escalators and also the light rail which at least for a stretch could be used and connected with the other alternatives. We have the waste problem which has not been revisited since Spera.”

A topic that is much discussed is the historic center: what do you miss if you live there?

“The center was abandoned for a long time. Traders require the presence of people in the center. The first thing to connect in a strong way is the University: young people come to the center solely for the festive event, instead we must create a connection with the University. We must try to bring the Municipality to the historic center in every possible way. The Municipality cannot stay in Sant’Antonio La Macchia”

If you were to be elected mayor, what would be the first three things you would do?

“Planning, design and agreement with the Public Administration. Understand, precisely, how the administrative machine must function, which is the fundamental part of the city, which allows you to carry out the political-administrative plan”

Why should the people of Potenza vote for it?

“Because I have been a city councilor for ten years. I know the administrative machine and the political machine. I know perfectly well what the vulnerabilities of this city are but also the ways to resolve some situations in this city”

After June 9th, which center-left will be in Potenza?

“I believe that we can begin to rebuild the centre-left which is torn apart and I would be the first to hold everyone’s hand so that it can start again with a different perspective, including a political one”.
