Great work in recent months for the Cremona police station, involved in the fight against illegal immigration. Among subjects traced in the area, released from prison and those who, without having the requirements, presented themselves at the counter in Corso Vittorio Emanuele 25/27 in order to request the issuance of a residence permit, 18 people were the recipients of an expulsion decree adopted by the Prefect of Cremona.

Among them, some subjects, belonging to different nationalities including Gambia, India, Morocco, Ecuador, Nigeria, Egypt, Albania and Ivory Coast, were responsible for particularly heinous crimes such as sexual violence, family abuse, attempted murder , personal injury, aggravated robbery, violence or threat to a public official, production and possession of narcotic or psychotropic substances.

In this context, the work of the 3rd Section – Execution of Administrative Measures – proved to be invaluable, thanks to which foreign citizens were associated with the Permanence Centers for Repatriation in Milan Corelli, Rome Ponte Galeria and Gorizia Gradisca D’Isonzo while awaiting to be subsequently accompanied to the border.

From a perspective of protecting public order and safety, the result achieved with the repatriation of an Egyptian citizen carried out in compliance with the expulsion decree adapted by the Surveillance Magistrate of Mantua was significant. The foreigner was in fact burdened with numerous convictions for sexual violence and property crimes.

Furthermore, 5 foreign citizens were ordered by the Police Commissioner of Cremona to leave the National Territory by no. 7 days from the date of notification and another 4 were subjected to the alternative measure of withholding the passport with the obligation to present it to the PG for the time strictly necessary to remove the impediments for accompaniment to the border.

The checks and investigations carried out during the issuing phases of the residence permit, which turned out to be approximately 5,500 in total since the beginning of the year, also led to the revocation of as many as 76 residence permits. The measures were adopted for different reasons including: absence from the national territory, judicial reasons, as well as, sometimes, authorizations obtained fraudulently.

Finally, the activity carried out by the section responsible for accepting requests aimed at recognizing refugee status is also particularly intense; to date, in fact, around 300 non-EU citizens have formalized this request awaiting recognition from the competent Territorial Commission starting from January 2024.
