Presentation of the volume “The cult of Saint Anthony of Padua in Fluminimaggiore
Presentation scheduled for Sunday 9 June at 6pm at the Cultural Center of Fluminimaggiore
Over two years of consultation and study of ancient manuscript documents kept in the historical archives of Cagliari, Fluminimaggiore, Ales and Iglesias, motivated by a dream: discovering the origins of the centuries-old feast of Sant’Antonio di Padova in Fluminimaggiore.
The protagonist of the story is the historian Maddalena Usai, 35 years old, a teacher, and her dream has become a book. It is entitled “The cult of Sant’Antonio di Padova in Fluminimaggiore”, it was published by Editoriale Documenta, and will be presented on Sunday 9 June at 6pm at the Cultural Center of Fluminimaggiore, in the presence of a rich parterre of speakers.
Moderated by the journalist Marco Corrias, speakers will include, in addition to the author, the mayor of Fluminimaggiore Paolo Sanna, the councilor for culture Francesca Murtas, the theologian Daniele Dessì, the anthropologist Grazia Villani, the director of the Diocesan Historical Archive of Ales Francesco Tuveri and the director of the Diocesan Archives of Iglesias Licia Meloni
The author Maddalena Usai explains: «In this work I was able to reconstruct almost the entire history of the celebrations organized in honor of the saint, as well as the history of the church named after him, retracing the various phases of expansion and modification, as well as some curiosities linked to our parish, with the consultation of numerous documents, also in the Catalan language”.
For the anthropologist Grazia Villani, author of the preface to the work: «Maddalena Usai has created a precious work, commendable for the plurality and richness of the sources consulted, through which, in addition to the religious factor, the social evolution economic and customs of the entire Flumini community. A book like this is already destined to become, thanks also to its array of notes and documentary references, a milestone for all those who want to get closer to the history of Fluminimaggiore”.
