Rovigo has made official the name of the coach who will replace Alessandro Lodi, who has just terminated his contract with the Bersaglieri.

In the 2024/25 season, Davide Giazzon will lead the rossoblù team, assisted by technical assistants Joe Van Niekerk and Stefan Basson, defense coach and attack coach respectively.

Giazzon arrived in Rovigo in 2020 as forwards coach. At the helm of the Rovigo scrum he won two championships, in 2021 and 2023.

His coaching career began in 2018 in Villorba, in the Serie B championship. In his playing CV, Giazzon can boast long experience on the front line between Mogliano, Aironi, Zebre and Benetton, as well as 29 caps with the Italian national team.

The statements of DS Polla Roux

“I would like to thank Alessandro for these two years, where we worked together.” – Sports director Polla Roux commented, referring to Lodi’s farewell – “He led the team with professionalism, managing to win their fourteenth Scudetto in 2023. We thank him for his passion and his attachment to the shirt. He gave a lot to the team and the city.”

“To give continuity to the project started with Lodi, together with the President we have identified Giazzon as the right person to fill the role of head coach. It was important to maintain this calm and positive environment, so we could only choose someone already on the staff. Giazzon, who has supported three coaches in Rovigo, has demonstrated that he has the competence to lead the team. It will be a new experience for him, we are happy to be able to give him this opportunity; we believe in his qualities. We must continue to grow and train players. With him there will be Van Niekerk and Basson, they will be able to give the right support to Giazzon to carry forward this project. He has 100% support from the club.” – Polla Roux concluded by explaining the reasons for the choice.
