L’Aquila, voting for the European elections starts at 3pm. Here’s where. No seats in the centre, after fifteen years

L’AQUILA – Polls open today, Saturday 8 June, from 3pm to 11pm, and Sunday 9 June, from 7am to 11pmfor the election of the 76 members of the European Parliament due to Italy.

To exercise the right to vote, voters called to the polls must show up at the polling stations equipped with an electoral card and one of the following identity documents:

• identity card or other identification document with photograph, issued by the public administration;
• identification card issued by the National Union of Officers on Leave of Italy, provided it is equipped with a photograph and validated by a military command;
• identification card issued by a professional association, provided it has a photograph.

Access to the voting booth is permitted only to the voter, except in cases of assisted voting. For voters who are physically prevented from expressing their vote independently, the law provides for the presence of companions.

In case the voter has lost your voter card, or if all the spaces on the electoral card are occupied by stamps, it is necessary to request it at the electoral office of the municipality of residence. The demographic services of the Municipality of L’Aquila guarantee, on the occasion of the electoral consultations on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 June, the opening of the offices of the headquarters in Via Roma on the following days and times: Saturday 8 June: 9.00am-11.00pm; Sunday 9 June: 7am-11pm. During the times indicated above, the offices will ensure the issuance of the electoral card and electronic identity card to users with an expired or lost identification document.

Some variations regarding the location of some seats, on the 23rd, 30th and 60th. Nothing new in the historic center. L’Aquila, 15 years after the earthquake, is still unable to guarantee the normal and democratic location of the center’s polling stations within the historic centre. The excuse, probably, is the lack of schools where the polling stations are usually located. But it is not an obligation at all, you just need to organize yourself in time – the process lasts several months – to be able to use other types of buildings, which is obviously not of much interest. Inside the historic center it is not even a given that schools will return, it is clear that an alternative solution to schools must be found.
