It’s called “Know, Communicate and Change!” the interprovincial hackathon aimed at secondary school students organized by the Chambers of Commerce of Vicenza, Mantua, Treviso-Belluno and Verona and co-financed by the Cariverona Foundation, for which the awards ceremony for the participants took place in recent days Vicenza, at the Golf Hotel in Creazzo.

The initiative, which started last November and ended in May, involved around fifty students from the Tron-Zanella scientific high school for applied sciences (classes 3AI and 3DI) and from the Canova artistic high school (class 4BL), which for good part of the school year they dedicated time and energy to the project, even outside the normal school year.

More specifically, the hackathon included three complementary activities (hence the title of the initiative). A first phase (“Know”) during which the participants deepened their knowledge of the concepts underlying the circular economy, which can be summarized in the famous “4 Rs” (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover). The next step (“Communicate”) was the creation, divided into small groups supported by a videomaker made available by the Vicenza Chamber of Commerce, of a short video through which the participants were asked to explain the circular economy to middle school students. This was an opportunity to acquire some communication skills (in making videos) as well as verifying the level of understanding of the topic and triggering a peer to peer training mechanism.

Finally, the students were asked to develop an idea to concretely implement the circular economy in the reality closest to them (“Change”). And here too the participants had fun, with proposals relating to the recovery of used clothes, but also unsold croissants in bars, up to the shared use of a 3D printer.

An evaluation commission made up of a representative of the Chamber of Commerce, the school office and the trade associations (Confcommercio, Apindustria and Confcooperative) evaluated the 6 videos and 6 projects created by the groups of participants, awarding first place to the students of group 1 of class 3 AI of the Tron Zanella Scientific High School of Applied Sciences in Schio formed by Caterina Bertoldo, Sofia Bille, Lorenzo Carraro, Adelin Covalschi, Matteo Dalla Valle, Andrea De Muri, Alessandro De Rizzo, Luca Girardi, Ulisse Gracioppo, Pietro Zordan;

2nd place went to working group 3 of the 3 DI class of the Tron Zanella Applied Sciences Scientific High School of Schio, while 3rd place went to team 4 of the 3 DI class of the Tron Zanella Applied Sciences Scientific High School of Schio.

Finally, a further and final phase of the project is scheduled for September: with the comparison between the winning projects in the 4 provinces involved and the final award ceremony.
