Salvini on Macron: «Criminal, let him go to war». Tajani: «That language does not belong to me»

The words of the deputy prime minister, although pronounced during the election campaign, risk becoming a coincidence.

«Macron is a criminal, he must be stopped»: as the end of the electoral campaign approachesand the words as usual become inflamed. But those pronounced by Matteo Salvini to the French president they risk becoming a case. Even in the hubbub and war of words of the last appeal to vote.

«There is someone who wants war. A dangerous guy that is Macron» attacked the Northern League deputy prime minister at the inauguration of a new branch of the League in Milan. «If I had it in front of Macron I would say “do you want war, do you want to attack Russia? So put your helmet on and go, don’t piss off other European citizens“». On the sidelines of the inauguration Salvini then added: «The words of Macron and the secretary general of NATO knownot absolutely clear: when one thinks of bombing and killing in Russia, he is a criminal. Because it brings us closer to World War III. I’m happy if the entire Italian government thinks like me. So no Italian bullets to hit in Russia and no Italian soldiers to fight in Ukraine, if we agree well.”

Later the Northern League leader took things further: «He is unstable, a warmonger, he must be stopped» he said again in reference to the head of the Elysée.

Salvini’s “outburst” soon became a case, also considering the fact that Italy holds the presidency of the G7 and the weighty statements risk not going unnoticed. The reactions for now are concentrated in the camp of the Italian opposition: «Salvini who attacks the French president proves that he is “unfit” to govern, he declares Carlo Calenda «if Salvini insults the French president risks a diplomatic crisis between France and Italy” adds the Action leader. “Salvini’s words speak for themselves” the secretary of the Democratic Party declares telegraphically Elly Schlein.

In the centre-right, the first to distance himself is the other deputy prime minister, Antonio Tajani, leader of Forza Italia: «Salvini’s is a language that belongs to me. Anyone who screams and is violent is weak”

The words of are indicative Sandro GoziItalian parliamentarian but part of the Renew group which recognizes itself in Macron: «That a deputy prime minister expresses himself with such rude and violent words towards the French president is a very serious fact which at other times would lead to diplomatic crises. Remove the fiasco from Salvini.”
