Ten years ago, the Frosinone by Roberto Stellone returned to Heaven. At the end of a wonderful season and a playoff sprint to remember, the yellow and blues at ‘Matusa’ wrote an indelible page in the history of Ciociaro football. The Frosinone freshman returned to Serie B on that hot afternoon of 7 June 2014. The first leg in Lecce ended 1-1: Mirko Gori scored for the Canaries. But the draw wasn’t enough for anyone: a winner would necessarily have had to emerge from the ‘Comunale’ match.

For the occasion, the ‘Matusa’ is transformed into a boiling basin, boiling with joy and passion: the entire stadium cheers on the lions, the Curva Sud is colored yellow-red. A spectacle never seen before. Frosinone took to the pitch more determined than ever, but the match became complicated from the first moments: the guests took the lead within ten minutes and hit a post. Which yellow and blue fan didn’t think “it’s over” at that moment?

But no, because Frosinone gains confidence over time, despite the disadvantage: Paganini he scores the 1-1 with a perfect header. And everything changes: in the second half we witness a thrilling match, with Frosinone twice coming close to scoring the winning goal. In both cases it is Davis Curiale who becomes the protagonist: on the first occasion the Canarian center forward sensationally misses the impact with the ball into an empty net, while on the second occasion he fails to displace Caglioni with a header.

The match doesn’t break the deadlock and it goes to extra time, but Lecce is exhausted and it shows: Miccoli, the real strong point of the Apulian attack, is destroyed by Leonardo Blanchard. The team as a whole is nervous and ends up getting even the simplest things wrong. In fact, Beretta commits a foul out of frustration and leaves his team with ten men. Frosinone takes advantage of this and scores a knockout blow for their opponents in the second and final period of extra time: Captain Frara scores the 2-1 under the Curva Nord and bursts into tears, a few moments later Viola scores the hat trick. And the curtain falls on ‘Matusa’: Frosinone returns to Serie B.
