The Picernoa team that plays in the Serie C championship, has hired for the first team bench Francesco Tomei.
The class of ’72, born in Pescara, has good experience in Serie A and the Champions League alongside Eusebio Di Francesco having been his faithful assistant coach for many years.
Pescara, Lecce, Sassuolo, Rome and Verona (Hellas side), the places where he coached. During the last season, he was the coach of the Monopoli first team in the 2023/2024 Serie C Now championship.
Francesco Tomei’s experience in Lecce
In Salento he coached in the 2011/2012 season when together with Di Francesco he accepted the job entrusted to him by Lecce in Serie A. His adventure, inexorably linked to the fate of the first coach, began on 22 June 2011, the date on which he their presentation was made official and ended on 4 December of the same year.
All Lecce fans remember the epilogue of that season. In place of the Di Francesco-Tomei duo, Serse Cosmi was called but he was unable to save the Giallorossi from relegation to Serie B. In that same summer, Lecce was convicted for the football betting case and relegated one category to Serie C.
