The railway underpass in Via Bernini Buri was reopened today for vehicular traffic on both lanes.

In the morning the traffic lights that regulated alternating traffic were removed, upon completion of the height adjustment works requested by the Municipality of Verona, which brought the work from the previous height of 4 meters at a height of 4.20 meters. This step will allow for smoother and safer traffic, giving the community back an important road hub that eases city traffic.

The intervention on the underpass in via Bernini Buri is an integral part of the works of construction of the Verona-Padua high-speed/high-capacity line, created by the General Contractor Iricav Due, led by WeBuild, on behalf of the client, Rete Ferroviaria Italiana. The adaptation and extension work, which began in July 2023, was made necessary for the new embankment of the future HS/HC railway line, and is part of a broader plan to redesign all the crossings of the railway line which is part of the Mediterranean corridor of the trans-European transport network TEN-T (Trans-European Transport Network).

The next works in via Campagnole and via Serenelli

The works will now continue eastwards, affecting the local road system in the coming months via Campagnole and via Serenelli, with the establishment of alternating one-way sections managed with traffic lights. The project involves moving the historic railway line to a new location, slightly further north than where it is now, by building this new railway section from scratch. Meanwhile, the new high-speed/high-capacity (HS/AC) line will be built on the route of the current historic line, with some changes to the route. The shift of the historical line concerns a stretch of approximately 1km.

“We asked Iricav Due to give the underpass as much height as possible, managing to reopen the vehicle traffic todaysays the councilor for Mobility and complex projects –. We will now proceed with other works, including blocking pedestrian passage throughout next week, to allow work on the electrical system, while in a month there will be two weeks of alternating traffic to renew the underpass lighting system. Subsequently the area will be affected by other interventions, and we hope to communicate a date soon to meet and share with the citizens what the next steps will be”.

“A result and a concrete response to the requests of farmers and businesses in the southern area of the railway which will allow safe transitcomments the president of the 7th District -. In the next few days we will have a meeting with the companies to get details on the future works that will be carried out, to better define all the changes to the local roads. As done previously we will make sure to give residents correct information on the status of the works and to receive observations, technically evaluate them with companies, and find mediation between the different eneeds, without prejudice to the need to respect the work timetable”.
