Friday is the day of the final of the doubles and the semi-finals of the singles draw of the International Women’s Tennis City of Caserta – Cogepa Trophy, a tournament with prize money of $ 60,000.00 now in its thirty-fifth edition.

Saturday afternoon, however, is the one that usually hosts the three matches that will designate the two tennis players who as a couple will enter their names in the tournament’s roll of honor and the two finalists of the singles main draw who will face each other on Sunday afternoon.

The prestigious tournament, which can be attended for free, is taking place on the red clay courts of the Caserta Tennis Club in via Laviano. The first singles semi-final will start at 3pm and will see Brazilian Laura Pigossi against Spanish Leyre Romero Gormaz.

The second semi-final, scheduled no earlier than 6.30pm, will see the Japanese Sara Sajto face the winner between the French Armandine Hesse and the Swiss Jil Teichmann.

The long-awaited doubles final will take place at 5pm and will see the pair formed by the young British girl Ali Collins and the talented Colombian Maria Paulina Perez-Garcia challenge the duo made up of the Colombian Yuliana Lizarazo and the feisty Greek Despina Papamichail.

In the doubles semifinal, Lizarazo and Papamichail surprisingly defeated Nicole Fossa Huergo and Anita Wagner with a score of 6-2; 7-5 in just two sets. Collins and Perez-Garcia instead defeated Shuo Feng and Alexandra Osborne in a match that required three sets: 1-6, 6-2, 10-6.

During Friday, Leyre Romero Gormaz (who occupies position 216 in the ranking) triumphed in a difficult match against Tatiana Pieri, winning with a score of 2-6; 6-4; 7-5. It was a long match, lasting two hours and twenty-six minutes, in which both players struggled against the extreme heat.

“I couldn’t be happier with this result,” commented Leyre Romero Gormaz. “Despite the difficulties caused by the heat and humidity on the pitch, the important thing was to get the victory. It’s always a pleasure to play in Italy and Caserta exceeded my expectations. The organization is excellent and the hospitality both inside and outside the club is top notch.”
