Cycle path in via del Molinuzzo and piazza San Francesco: work begins

PISTOIA – Work will start on Monday 10 June, with the opening of the construction site, to create the cycle/pedestrian path in Via del Molinuzzo and then continue along Piazza San Francesco, on the side in front of the church of the same name. Repaving in gray sandstone is also planned in the area near the bus stop in front of the church.

The itinerary will allow you to complete the connection between the Pistoia Ovest station and Piazza San Francesco, given the existence of the cycle/pedestrian path which, starting from the Pistoia Ovest station, crosses via San Biagio in Cascheri, via Betti and then ends in via Fucini. Once completed, the work will also allow the connection between the area to the west of the railway, where there is Viale Adua, the station’s exchange car park, the Fedi – Fermi Institute and the city centre.

In detail the work, financed for 240,000 euros partly by the Municipality and partly by the Ministry of the Environment and Protection of Land and Sea as part of the sustainable urban mobility incentive program (PRIMUS), provides for the creation of a cycle/pedestrian path 2.50 meters wide on the side left with respect to the roadway, where the current sidewalk of via del Molinuzzo is located, a one-way street from viale Petrocchi towards piazza San Francesco. The route will be raised above the roadway. Pedestrian passage during the works will be guaranteed on the existing sidewalk on the right side of the road.

Public lighting is already present and two cameras for video surveillance will be installed. It is also planned to move the existing drains and adapt the rainwater disposal system.

The mobility councilor of the Municipality of Pistoia highlights that the works begin with the closure of schools precisely to avoid problems with the city’s traffic as much as possible. The objective of all the interventions carried out, in progress and which will continue is to encourage travel in the city by bicycle and on foot, easily and safely, as an alternative to the car, thanks to the connection between the various sections of cycle paths already present in the area.

Meanwhile, the construction works are nearing completion cycle/pedestrian path in viale Matteottiwhile the renovation of the areas is underway via del Villone And via di Valdibrana.

Changes to traffic.

To allow for the construction of the cycle/pedestrian path, from Monday 10 June until 9 August in via del Monuzzo and piazza San Francesco (area under the Parterre, near the intersection with via del Molinuzzo) a parking ban will be in force with forced removal for all vehicles, except construction site vehicles. Traffic will be diverted onto the portion of the roadway that will remain free. Pedestrians will be able to walk along a protected path.

There will be warning signs on site.
