TRIESTE – It presents itself as a large multi-sport facility, a few steps from the center of Trieste, with various spaces to host different disciplines: the Trieste Campus has been inaugurated, defined as “the citadel of sport”, which also includes points used for studying and other after-school activities. The president of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Massimiliano Fedriga, underlined how it is «a public-private project of enormous value from a sporting, educational and economic point of view. Providing young people with a place where they can play sports, study, have fun and socialize in one large area will give them the opportunity to live a unique experience in the area.” Trieste Campus also presents itself as a virtuous example of project financing: «The Region wants to support this type of project by providing a specific contribution for all the Municipalities that want to develop similar proposals».

The campus has a gym for training activities, a course room for the various free body disciplines, a fencing room and one dedicated to karate. Outside, the roof of the parking lot below has been transformed into a tennis court, three padel courts, a pickleball court and a field for team sports such as basketball and volleyball. The facility, which will feature Water Polo Trieste, Unione Sportiva Triestina Nuoto, Fiamma Karate, San Giusto Scherma, Tennis Events, Scout Amis and Calicanto, will be joined by the historic gym for basketball and volleyball, already present for some time, which Trieste Campus will renovate always in partnership with the Municipality of Trieste. It was Samer & Co. Shipping SpA who focused on the project and in particular the entrepreneur Enrico Samer, now also president of Trieste Campus. The project was presented in detail in February: a total investment of over 6 million euros, the first sports project financing in Friuli Venezia Giulia, carried out in buildings owned by the Municipality of Trieste which required a reuse project for the area.
