Here’s what you need to know and what the challenges are.
In Tuscany voting takes place in 185 Municipalities, of the 273 in total in this region.
In addition to the capital Florence, probably the most politically significant challenge at a national level in this round of administrative elections, polls are also open in the second and third municipalities in the region by number of inhabitants, Prato and Livorno.
The municipal council is also renewed in Empoli, the largest of the 31 non-capital municipalities which still have more than 15 thousand inhabitants called to express themselves.
The smaller municipalities in which the electoral challenge is being staged are the majority, 150: there the run-off is not contemplated, on the evening of Monday 9 June we will know with certainty who has become mayor, given that to win it is sufficient to get one more vote than the opponents.
The competition for the larger municipalities is decidedly different, Florence and Prato in the head, where there would be run-off between the two most voted candidates if none of the competitors reach 50% plus one of the valid votes.
A conditional which, according to the polls commissioned by the parties themselves, seems destined to become reality.
When you vote
Voting will take place on Saturday 8 June from 3pm to 11pm and on Sunday 9 June from 7am to 11pm.
The possible runoffs (for municipalities over 15 thousand inhabitants, where no candidate will have exceeded 50% of the votes) will be held on June 23 and 24.
